Hey folx! Glad you're able to join me for one of the two below shows happening this Saturday, October 9th, 2021.  If you're receiving this, you're not only someone I've worked with in the past... you're someone I've ENJOYED working with a whole bunch! :) Here are the deets!

(I know it LOOKS like a lot... but honestly I just like being as thorough as possible. All you really need to do is show up this Sat afternoon & have fun.)

  • "CARLOS... REMIND ME AGAIN WHAT THIS WHOLE EVENT IS ABOUT?"
    • Bittersweet Fest ("BSF", #bittersweetfest21, #bsf21) is a 24-hour live & virtual festival fundraiser being held at the Lincoln Lodge, 2040 N. Milwaukee Ave, as well as online. Our shows will be live.
    • The Fundraiser is by and for the Playground Theater. While they no longer have a physical venue, there company is still very much alive. So again, it's FOR Playground, but it's AT Lincoln Lodge. :D
    • They are going to try to use some of the proceeds to pay the artists and staff involved, us included. An important part of their organization going forward is trying to pay performers, staff, etc. I'll keep you posted on those, though I doubt it'll be a lot.
    • I'm throwing these shows under an "All The Comedy Productions" label I use sometimes. A facebook event for BOTH shows can be found at https://facebook.com/events/556108645500603. Kindly invite folx!
    • The venue is VAXED entry only; proof of vaxing and masking will be required except for when enjoying refreshments. I presume performers will not have to be masked while on stage performing.
    • If you're cast in a show that's at a time you can't make, or you think you're missing from a show that you signed up to do (or would really like to do), lmk ASAP and I'll see about making an update.
    • For tips on PROMOTING THE SHOW, please go to the bottom of this page. Folx can buy tix or watch from home! Tix are PAY WHAT YOU WANT, but they're recommending $50 for the whole marathon.
    • Finally, if for whatever reason your schedule has changed and you cannot make whatever show you're cast in, no worries. Just lmk ASAP. We should have enough folx to cover, so recasting probably won't be an issue.

    • Suggested Costume Elements:
      • ​Blue Jeans (bell bottoms would be bonus, but absolutely unnecessary)
      • Light colored long sleeve shirt, w/sleeves rolled up and top one or two buttons unbuttoned
      • Afro-wig (brownish if possible) & goatee or beard

        (To be clear if you cannot get ANY of the below, that's fine, as long as you are hitting that mellow spirit Bob might bring to the stage. But even one piece of the below will do nicely. But if you're willing, one trip to the local Spirit Halloween pop up or comparable costume shop should do the trick. There's one on Halstead just south of Wrightwood that I know of. If you've seen others, let us know!)
    • Show Format:
      • ​Think late night shows at the Crowd, or for those of you that have ever attended the Del Close Marathon in NYC, the late night bit shows there!
      • We're basically going to do a 15 to 20 minute fast paced set, with scenes probably being on average two minutes or less. There are a LOT of us, so I want to make sure everyone gets two to three chances to be in a scene if possible.
      • Everyone will be acting as if Bob Ross has been cloned, and all the Bobs' have decided to do an improv show together.
      • The scenes may be on the shorter side, but Bob will maintain his mellowness. Put him in any & every scenario you can think of. Intense... thrilling... just absurd... the more preposterous for Bob, the better! For example, he can be in a high stakes negotiation, then just have to draw what he's talking about. Whatever! Have fun with it!!
      • If you have a flip open sketch pad you can carry, a carry size white board, or even a flip open memo pad, feel free to bring those and draw "props" you create in scenes if you want. (Think of what Bob would say as he draws).
      • Matt B. MAY be bringing actual paint & an easel to paint scenes as they're happening.
      • If ANYONE wants to dress up as a Mr. Rogers (or some other recognizable PBS/NPR celeb) to show up at some point in the show & jump in on the fun, that would be amazing! But not necessary.
 
  • DIRTY POP! (improv game show)   (20-25 minute set in 4 to 5:30 pm PG-13 "Fun & Games" block)

      (If there's anyone not in this that REALLY wants to be in it, or anyone in it that would be ok with giving up their spot, lmk. I'm looking to make teams of 3x3. If anyone in the cast hasn't done shortform before, lmk that as well so I can prep you.)

    • ​Regular performance clothes fine ... (i.e., even tees are find, but not printed tees)
    • Show Format:
      • This is a hybrid short form / pop culture trivia game show. Basically, we'll be using short form endowment ("guessing"), scenic, and/or backline games that lend themselves to eliciting film, TV, pop music, books, events, or even objects tied to a specific time or fad from the 80s, 90s, aughts, and 10s.
      • Examples of what MIGHT appear in the show, include...
        • ​Backline group game of "SCENES YOU NEVER SAW..." where each team gets the name of a movie, but the audience members selected for each team do not, and have to guess what the movie is based on scenes you create that you would NOT have seen in said movies.
        • A game of PARTY QUIRKS, where two audience members have to guess who each of three cast members are. The cast members can be celebrities from the past, or even people who attended memorable events in the past.
        • SING IT LIKE THE GUY FROM THE B-52's... a game I thought up just now based on the warm up exercise where each team sings lyrics from a well know song from anytime in the past four decades, but as Fred Schneider (the "Rock Lobster" guy) from the B-52s, etc.
        • Pyramid... aka, Taboo... aka the game where a cast member/s has to get an audience member to say a word or title that an audience member can't see, using clues. This is more of a straight up game show game.
        • BEASTIE RAP BATTLE... where one of the cast sets up a line, and the audience member has to fill in the last word based on context clues.
      • If you have an idea of a short form show that lends itself heavily to what I'm describing above, lmk. The more physicality involved, the better, but that's not a deal breaker.​
